Upgrades will give you a boosts in specific statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item level upgrade by +3. A random additional substat is also added to each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more useful, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like Eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as useful for the latter because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Certain upgrades provide discounts on Flightstones. The crests can later be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to obtain the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it does bring some modifications to the upgrade process. For instance, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change is intended to allow players to upgrade their gear up to the highest ilvl possible for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests only have one purpose, so it's important to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrader gear you have available and keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning to make. This is particularly relevant for items like trinkets and rings that fill several slots. The discount on the account will only be applicable if all the slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
